In September 2024 I attended the first Mental Health & the Church Conference of Key Ministry. This helped me gain greater awareness of the overlap between Mental Health (& mental Illness) & Special Needs/Disability.
These are some resources.
- Anchor International (Denver, CO). Kimberly Britt. Christ-centered, peer led mental health support groups. Online training & downloadable program materials so Anchor can partner with churches worldwide. Anchor offers easy-to-launch programs, free facilitator training & long-term support.
- Christian Asian Mental Health. D.J. Chuang. Provides coaching & resources for Asian American churches to develop their mental health ministry to care and support people through life challenges. Erasing Shame podcast.
- Fresh Hope for Mental Health. Laura Howe. Christian support group for parents caring for a child with disabilities or mental health challenges, who need support for their own mental health. Partners with Key Ministry to offer a group to bring hope, resources & support, so that caregivers can thrive & live full, rich, faith-filled lives.
- Hope for Brighter Tomorrows: the mental health ministry of Kay Warren. Co-founder of Saddleback Church with husband Rick Warren, she became a mental health advocate & suicide prevention advocate for individuals & suicide prevention advocate for individuals & families after their youngest son committed suicide in 2013. She established the BREATHE ministry to support other parents through retreats, online Zoom calls & a private Facebook page.
- Key Ministry (Cleveland, OH). Founded by Dr. Steve Grcevich, author of Mental Health and the Church: A Ministry Handbook for Including Children and Adults with ADHD, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, and Other Common Mental Health Conditions. Host of the September 2024 conference Mental Health & the Church. Blogs. Monthly zoom leaders group. Articles.
- Reboot Recovery. Offers 12 week courses to help people heal from trauma. Faith-based. Programs in (1) Trauma reboot, (2) Military reboot, (3) First Responder rebook.
- Restore Addiction Recovery (Akron, OH). Christ-centered, Biblically-based & clinically supported 12-month residential ministry for men struggling with drug and/or alcohol addiction. Focus on total life transformation rather than just “getting sober.”
